Don’t you feel robbed whenever you buy groceries and see the enormous amount displayed right in front of you?
I was exactly the same.
I often found myself running out of money after shopping for groceries.
What’s even worse than the guilty feeling of buying more than I could afford is discovering that all my purchases were unnecessary products.
But that was before I had my eyes opened about personal finance and proper money management. I wanted to be better than I was before. I wanted to give value to my hard earned money.
So let me share with you these 5 ways to save money on groceries so you don’t end up making the same mistakes that I did.
1.) Never go hungry
My number one rule. Don’t ever do this if you want to save money on groceries.
If you do, there is a high chance that you would grab onto every appealing food or snack that looks tasty.
Try to eat first before going out. If time is not on your side then simply bring a light snack to curb your hunger in the meantime.
2.) Know where the most affordable prices are
People say that information is knowledge. I wholeheartedly agree especially if you want to save money on groceries.
Know your available options for grocery shopping. Take for example going to the malls versus Puregold or other wholesalers where you can get more value for your money.
3.) Make a list and stick to it
Know what you need to buy before going out – and stick to it.
Dedication and self-discipline is really the key here.
Take a look at what’s missing first and make a note of those. Having a list beforehand is going to make you less likely to buy stuff that you don’t need.
You can do it the old-fashioned way with pen and paper or with the technology nowadays, you can just easily download an app on your phone to write your lists.
4.) Take only the cash you need
From my experience, you might find that it’s better to pay in cash.
You just take whatever budget you have for grocery shopping and money for your fare or gas if needed. That’s it and nothing else.
This method further promotes self – discipline so you don’t end up buying unnecessary stuff.
5.) Eat more healthy, choose vegetables
How about saving money and being healthy at the same time?
Vegetables are usually cheaper than buying chicken and pork. Expand your knowledge and learn some recipes that have vegetables as their main ingredient.
Try Adobong Sitaw – it’s one of my favorites. It’s super affordable and very easy to make!
There you have it. Those are some steps you can quickly apply to save money when doing grocery shopping.
As always, every bit of savings will help you in achieving your goal.
